Open Public Records Act—Requests, Responses and Fees

Course Description

The OPRA—Requests, Responses and Fees seminar is designed to aide attorneys, custodians, and clerks in properly responding to OPRA requests and ensuring government transparency while maintaining the safety, security and privacy of the public. The timing allocated to respond to requests and the applicable exemptions to disclosure will also be examined. This seminar will further address the ethics of the attorney-client privilege as it applies to municipal, county, state and other government agencies and the employees thereof. Finally, this seminar will examine the making of and/or opposition to, fee applications and the applicable RPCs.

This program is pending approval by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for 3.2 hours of total CLE credit. Of these, 1.5 qualify as hours of credit for ethics/professionalism, and 1.7 are pending qualification as hours of credit toward certification in civil trial law, and workers’ compensation law.

This program has been approved by the PA CLE board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania for a maximum of: one (1) hour of ethics and two (2) substantive hours for a total of three (3) credit hours.

All municipal government licensees will receive:
one (1) hour in ethics, plus three (3) substance hours, for a total of four (4) credit hours. The three (3) substance hours will be as set forth: CMFO/CCFO, office management/ancillary subjects; CTC, general/secondary duties; RMC, records; CPWM, government; QPA, office admin./general duties.
